I have been busy the last few weeks out and about looking at locations that fit the criteria of: easily accessible, offer shade during the day and are lovely backdrops.
This time of year is quite green, so I look for spots with some kind of colour to add a little pop of contrast, with space where we can also pop a blanket down.

kingsway
There are a couple of spots right next to each other - this gorgeous long grass with cow parsley, and walking distance is an apple orchard. The blossoms don't stay out for long so may not still be there in the orchard.
barnwood PARK & arboretum
a lovely place to explore with a huge variety of trees, along with spots of long grass and cow parsley
rodborough common - near fort
nestled in the common near the fort is this little section of trees which would provide some shade, with lovely views nearby. Please note the common is quite exposed so expect winds.
rodborough common - amberley
A lovely little spot in Amberley, with a mix of cow parsley and wild garlic flowers with a cotswold stone wall behind.
barnwood/zoons court
Just off the main road is a nature reserve with lots of beige reeds that can act as a more neutral backdrop. less shade and Quite exposed so expect winds.
highnam
Gorgeous woodland with parking close by. Bluebells may still be out but not guaranteed - still a lovely spot.
abbeymead
near the clock tower, TALL TREE LINES PROVIDING GOOD SHADE WITH LONG GRASS (longer than it looks) EITHER SIDE WITH COW PARSLEY.
Highnam - rapeseed
just around the corner from the bluebell woodland is this rapeseed field. offers less shade but lovely bright colours.
Saintbridge ponds
a little hidden gem. there is less shade here but variety in terms of pond, reeds and trees. great for an overcast day.
cam peak
stunning bluebell location (should still be out by the 1st) some gorgeous spots close enough to parking. trees around the outside for shade.
